Need a way to keep warm this winter? We have a few ideas...

These Terracotta Pots make excellent heaters! However, if you think this little pot will heat your entire house, you will be very disappointed. They DO heat up fast, but you also have to be smart with them. I do not have a wood burning fireplace in my current house. If the power were to go out this winter, I would have NO way of heating my entire home. Instead of planning on heating my entire house, I would instead make a comfort zone in the living room. I would push out or remove the couches from my living room, put together our family size camping tent in our living room. Why a tent?

Tents can hold in heat better than a large drafty house. I have been camping in the past, being the only one in the tent and it was very cold. I have also been camping in the same tent, with multiple people and it was very warm. Be sure, if you are picking a tent for your families emergency situation, that can fit all of your family and that ISN'T TOO BIG.

I also plan on placing a Terracotta heater somewhere in the center where it cannot be tipped over or spilled.

If you are not crafty and don't feel like a DIY (Do It Yourself) Project, then you can click on the main image above to purchase a Terracotta Heater (Bonus - It has a mini built in stove! Might as well put some of that good heat to use and heat some water for drinks or dinner while you're at it.)

If you don't have that kind of money, or are in a state of panic, you can try putting together a heater with whatever you have on hand. Keep in mind, this will not work on ceramic pots, just the clay/terracotta ones. Also, be EXTREMELY careful when using these heaters. Do NOT leave them unattended. It is also important that if you decide to put a base plate / plant saucer underneath your candles, that it doesn't have a hole in the plate where spilled candle wax / oil could drip through. The wax from some of these tealight candles is flammable, you don't want wax leaking out of your setup or having anything below the candles that could potentially catch fire.

(*Do not try on sealed / painted / or treated Terracotta as it may burn or spread off hazardous chemicals.)

Ways you can comfortably sleep in a Tent that is HEATED Without Electricity

1. Water Bottles: Boil some water and place in Non-plastic water bottles and place at the bottom of your sleeping bag. The heat from the bottom of the bag will radiate up as the heat escapes. (When using the Terracotta heater to heat the air - at the same time, use your Terracotta stove to warm up some water to fill into water bottles to sleep with at bedtime.)

2. Using Hot Stones: It can take awhile for rocks to become heated, but once they do, they will take even longer to give off all of that stored up heat. To do this all you need is some large baseball/ softball sized rocks, a campfire, and a kitchen towel. Warm the rocks 4" - 8" away from your campfire's flame. Rotate the rocks every 15 minutes or so. Within an hour and a half your bedtime rocks will be ready to go. Remove them from the fire, wrap them in kitchen towels and place them around your sleeping area.

3. Right Tent: I cannot express enough how comfortable you will be with the correct amount of room in your tent. Too much wiggly room will make EVERYONE cold and uncomfortable. Too little space and you may get sick of everyone in your tent within a week after smelling their feet in your face every night. You will also get irritated fast if they like to roll over or kick during the night. Make sure your tent is filled but not to maximum capacity.
